Can you patent bitcoin?

In our latest Question of the Week video, we discussed the differences between publishing and patenting your idea. This time, we will give you an in-depth view into the bitcoin industry in terms of patents.

Can you patent Bitcoin? No, you can’t. The creator of Bitcoin released it freely on the internet in 2009. The pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto and/or his team of people didn’t file for a patent or otherwise try to claim ownership. However, many applications using Bitcoin and the blockchain technology have been made since then. To protect the rights to these applications, many innovators filed for patents. Big companies are filing too – everyone from Amazon to Verizon, eBay to JP Morgan has filed blockchain or Bitcoin patents.

If you have a blockchain idea, don’t wait – file your patent quickly and protect your idea.

If you want to protect your idea, file for a patent. We at KISSPatent can help you to turn your ideas into profit. Give us a call and we will be happy to answer all of your questions. Submit your own question for our Question of the week series and we'll answer it!
