How can a patent help you go global?

How can a patent help you go global?

In our latest Question of the Week video, we discussed the latest patent trends in VR and AR. This time, we will focus on global patents.

It’s a well-known fact that if you file your patent in the US, it won’t protect you in Europe. And if you want to stop Chinese copycats, you have to file for a Chinese patent. The patent rules are stricter outside of the US. For example, you need to file a patent before your idea is made public – so, before you publish your app or make the idea accessible on your website.

Filing a patent, however, can help you to obtain global protection. You can file a provisional patent application and decide within a year whether you'd like to move forward with the idea. Or you can file a PCT or international patent application and get another 18-30 months to decide if your idea is worthwhile to pursue within the scope of your business.

If you want to protect your idea, file for a patent. We at KISSPatent can help you to turn your ideas into profit. Give us a call and we will be happy to answer all of your questions. Submit your own question for our Question of the week series and we'll answer it!
